Antidepressants would lead to dependence and withdrawal

Antidepressants would lead to dependence and withdrawal
Withdrawal reactions associated with the most commonly prescribed antidepressants seem similar to those caused by anxiolytics, according to a study published in the journal Addiction, which aimed to explore the rationale supporting the claim that the anti-anxiety medication of the benzodiazepine class would cause a dependence whereas the antidepressant class of serotonin selective reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) did not cause. SSRI is the most commonly prescribed. It includes, for example., Prozac, Celexa (citalopram or), Deroxat (Paroxetine Paxil), Seroplex, Zoloft and others.

Mr. Nielsen and his colleagues at the University of Copenhagen and the Nordic Cochrane Centre analyzed the definitions given to the reactions of dependence and withdrawal over time in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and analyzed the scientific literature to compare the withdrawal symptoms associated with the two drug groups.
